Data Sampling / Ghost Suffering is a physically intense, silent experience and serendipitous collaborative performance based on sampling and sequencing techniques. Data Sampling / Ghost Suffering is an improvisation disrupting patterns and establishing chaos as a language. 

Sylvain Sylvain uses muscular tension as a vibrant instrument and transforms the variation of notes made of data.

The speechless audience translates it as a landscape, an atmosphere. In this ephemeral and mystical huis clos, every single breath shared by the performer and the audience invites ghosts in distress claiming asylum in every broad and fine strokes of Sylvain Souklaye’s face.

The performer’s body is a recipient and a battleground with space for present and absent people.

Data Sampling / Ghost Suffering is a narrative laboratory made of broken memories and anonymous emotions. Each performance’s component serves to experiment shattered memories. With Data Sampling / Ghost Suffering performer Sylvain Souklaye digs, manipulates and re-enacts epigenetic suffering and channels it towards the audience.

Data Sampling / Ghost Suffering is a sampling ritual articulated around sixteen traumas and intimate absence, building one mouvement.

Sylvain Souklaye uses objects as fetishes to invoke past moments and merge them with an unsettling present.

The nature of these fetishes is a forgotten symbolism and its fonction a silent rhythm sealing the place and the audience into one indivisible moment.

Data Sampling / Ghost Suffering is an autonomous performance colonising the audience, where both the performer and the public are witnesses and active agents of the reminiscence phenomenon.

Sylvain Souklaye samples from his past and his ancestors’ past, then sequences and re-enacts intimate and social history into a personal snapshot that progressively looks at the audience, looks like the audience and links them to that moment.

Data Sampling / Ghost Suffering is a serendipitous tribe building experience.
