Self designation and/or Lonely civilisation is a three-part video installation about transition, resilience and survival where Sylvain Souklaye reassembles and reanimates confessions, narratives and imagination.

Immobilised within Self designation and/or Lonely civilisation, the audience is invited to explore three time periods, places and states of mind building and destroying the artist’s memory. Self designation and/or Lonely civilisation is not a promenade inside an installation, instead the audience sits and is bound to experience Sylvain Souklaye’s way.

META DATA ETC articulates how nostalgia is the only tense of the never-ending present. It is the now without roots nor legacy. It’s a laugh, a slap and a silence.

Mouthpiece Puppet represents the forgotten voices, a sound made of others, for others through the artist. Words are beyond their masters but what is this collection of letters without no one to host it?

WALKMIND (form1) maps possibilities, alternatives, perspectives of different lives and lies. The audience is the object of this experience until it merges with the artist’s vision to become the subject. A subject reflecting, talking and walking to create a new path.

Self designation and/or Lonely civilisation moves, stays and fights at the same time for what can’t be seen but lived.
